Translucent Sewn Banners & Tapestry by artist Mettje Swift

Custom Banner Art & Kinetic Designs

Banner Art Studio, founded by artist Mettje Swift, creates large-scale suspended aerial tapestry installations for atriums, civic spaces, healthcare facilities, universities, and architectural interiors around the world. Combining translucent woven nylon with elegant stainless-steel structures, each installation is handcrafted to interact with light, air, and the surrounding architecture.

For more than four decades, Mettje Swift has developed a unique sewn fabric technique that gives the work the luminous quality of stained glass in motion. Floating overhead, these kinetic sculptures shift gently with air currents, transforming open spaces into immersive environments filled with color, movement, and light.

Working from our rural Colorado studio, our team collaborates closely with architects, designers, and clients to create site-specific artwork that reflects identity, wellness, and inspiration. Every commission is designed to elevate the emotional experience of a space—inviting people to look upward, slow down, and connect with beauty in motion.

From soaring atriums and conservatories to public gathering spaces and streetscapes, Banner Art Studio creates contemporary fabric art that leaves a lasting impression.

Your atrium is a place where a living narrative can unfold—one that reflects your identity and welcomes people into your story.

Banner Art is a singular art form: a sweeping visual panorama, a moving tapestry shaped by your spirit, Mettje’s vision, and our exclusive fabrication technique. The result is artwork as luminous and timeless as stained glass, brought to life in translucent color and animated by air and light.

Your message becomes a vibrant fusion of color and design, adding a touch of magic to public spaces. Suspended atrium banner art is ideal for health facilities, schools and universities, civic centers, and recreation buildings—anywhere a space deserves to inspire.

Over your main street is an Artspace

The space above your Main Street is an open gallery—an opportunity to transform your downtown into a vibrant public art experience. Mettje Swift’s street banners suspended high over the street, are large-scale fabric murals--a tapestry of bright color, movement, and the heart of a community.

Each mural is handcrafted from luminous translucent nylon using Mettje’s signature sewn fabric technique, developed over more than four decades. Designed specifically for each location, the murals often reflect local events, history, wildlife, landscapes, festivals, and the identity of the community itself. By day, sunlight illuminates the fabric like stained glass. By night, streetlights create a glowing presence overhead.

Unlike printed street banners, these tapestry murals are individually fabricated works of art designed for lasting outdoor installation. Their flowing lines, rich color, and movement in the wind create an atmosphere that feels both celebratory and timeless. The result is a downtown environment that feels alive, welcoming, and visually unforgettable.

For communities across the American West, Mettje Swift’s suspended street murals have become landmarks that encourage tourism, strengthen civic identity, and create memorable public spaces. More than decoration, they are architectural artworks that transform the experience of being on the street itself.
